Mission:
Keep the facilities and grounds of Mount Olive Lutheran
School clean and sanitized.
Knowledge:
Cleaning techniques and equipment; industrial cleaning
chemicals, their interactions, danger signs and safe disposal methods,
including knowledge of industrial cleaning procedures and cleaning equipment;
first aid and safety practices.
Ability:
Perform janitorial work; understand and follow written and
oral instructions; use cleaning supplies and equipment safely and correctly.
Qualifications:
- Desire
to serve Christ and His body, and to assist in carrying out Mount Olive’s
mission
- Be
dependable, punctual, and have good attendance record
- Be
willing to accept supervision
- Be
able to maintain composure under stress
- Be
able to follow instructions and work with a minimum of supervision
- Be 18
years of age or older
- Be
organized and task-oriented
- Be
willing and able to address the needs of students, staff, and membership
as they relate to congregation’s overall ministry and principal’s
supervision
- Be a
team player and relate positively to all staff, students, parents, and
principal
- Be in
good health, having necessary vitality and physical stamina
Hours:
6:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., Monday - Friday (one half hour for
lunch)
Report to:
School Principal
Performance Evaluation:
The janitor shall be evaluated annually in October using the
Mount Olive support staff review form.
Please Note: With the addition of additional classrooms
and a larger gym in the summer of 2018, these responsibilities may be
expanded. However, some of the increased
work load will be taken on by the part-time after-school janitor.
General Responsibilities:
- Be
responsible for the cleaning and sanitation of the school building.
- Follow
cleaning procedures and schedule.
- Consistently
strive to maintain a clean and attractive facility.
- Maintain
adequate supply of cleaning materials and equipment.
- Report
any building maintenance or safety concerns to the Principal, chairman of
Board of Properties, or the Maintenance person.
- Perform
deep cleaning of facilities on a regular basis.
- Pick
up trash from garbage cans around school as required.
- Attend
and participate in meetings and preparation work as requested.
- Train
and supervise volunteers and those assigned to assist.
- Assume
all other duties and assignments deemed appropriate by the Principal.
- Operate
scrubbers, buffers, waxers and other equipment and machinery, as required.
- Move
furniture - including desks, file cabinets, and chairs - to facilitate
cleaning.
- Wash
and sanitize drinking fountains, toilets, urinals, trash cans and keep
mirrors clean.
- Check
and replace bathroom consumables; keep janitor’s closet clean and stocked.
- Restock
copy machine supplies.
- Order
cleaning supplies: toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, etc. as
needed
- Perform
other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Be

visually the cleanliness of the grounds and buildings.

quick pace and complete tasks.

activity in manner that encourages ministry staff.
Specific Responsibilities:
Daily:
- Dry
mop halls
- Taking
special care to clean under benches and behind all open doors (including
magnetically controlled fire doors).
- Move
obstacles left under benches or in hallways to facilitate mopping.
- Wet
mop halls as needed.
- See
note above regarding benches.
- Display
“Wet Floor” signs in
appropriated places.
- Wipe
the baseboardswhen needed,
taking special care to prevent buildup of dust and dirt where the floor
and baseboards meet.
- Keep
floors wiped dry when wet from snow or rain.
- Dry
mop gym floor, stage, and locker room floors.
- Clean
mirrors
- Scrub
and sanitize washbasins and countertops.
- Scrub
and sanitize toilet stools and urinals.
- Scrub
inside of toilet bowl with toilet bowl cleaner
- Spray
disinfectant and wipe with paper towel the toilet seat, handle and
exterior of entire toilet
- Wipe
down ledge above urinals
- Spray
flush handles with Lysol
- Put
two oz. of antibacterial solution in all urinals.
- Disinfect
door handles of restrooms.
- Supply
paper hand towels, toilet paper, and soap.
- On
Fridays:Supply 2 rolls of
toilet paper in restroom stalls.
- Empty
trash
- Sweep
floors in restrooms.
- Wet
mop restroom floors including space behind toilets.
- Display
“Wet Floor” signs.
- Clean all
drinking fountains (Need to clean the 2 fountains on Main Floor twice a
day)
- Sanitize
the fountain basin.
- Wipe
down and polish entire unit.
- Spray
handles with Lysol.
- Dust
under basin.
- Collect
recycled paper and empty trash from offices & copying room.
- Change
burned-out light bulbs or contact Church Properties.
- Vacuum
Entry carpets.
- Before
school starts:Vacuum under
benches with upright vacuum
- End
of Day:Vacuum tile carpet
with large vacuum.
- After
lunch: Vacuum Fellowship Hall and sweep stairs. (School day custodian
cleans the following: four stairwells leading to basement level – the
fifth stairwell leading to Altar Guild storeroom is the responsibility of
the Altar Guild. The after-school custodian cleans the two stairwells that
access the 7th & 8th grade classrooms, including
the portion of the west stairwell that leads to the basement level.)
Weekly:
- Monday:Empty trash in Mother’s Room.
- Tuesday
and Friday:Wet mop vinyl tile
on south stairs and landings leading to the Fellowship Hall. Wet mop the
vinyl tile of the east basement landing, including the tile in the
Fellowship Hall and hallway leading to the bathrooms behind the kitchen.
Vacuum the carpet in the north basement landing. (This same area should be
done if needed prior to other events being held in the Fellowship Hall
(ex: funerals, showers, etc.).
- Wednesday:Dust banisters, railings,
windowsills, chandeliers, register tops, flag stands, and other places
where dust collects (hallway shelves, benches, lockers, bleachers, etc.).
- Thursday:
Mop bathroom floors in kitchen bathrooms.
- Friday:
Scrub and sanitize toilets, clean sink, mop floors in the sacristy and mothers’
room.
- Friday:
Sweep and wet mop the stairs leading down to the kitchen from the parking
lot.
- Friday
End of Day: Check all main floor bathrooms. Empty trash cans and make sure
towels, toilet paper, and soap is stocked. Clean toilets and sinks.
- Use
hand attachment to vacuum where hallway carpet meets the walls.
- Disinfect
door handles and door knobs
- Clean
classroom sinks.
- Keep
storage rooms and janitor closets clean and uncluttered.
- Keep
hallway that runs pass Library and 4th grade room back door clear
of items.
- Wash
glass on all entrance doors.
- Wet
mop gym floor (during the school year)
- Dry
mop/wet mop/vacuum rooms of secretaries, office bathroom, pastors and
principal.
- Dry
mop supply room and wet mop.
- Restock
copier paper.
- Empty
garbage in Teen Room
- Clean
Teen Room floor (if needed)
- Mop
After School Care floor (this could be assigned by principal to after-school
care team).
- Vacuum/Dust
the Library
Biweekly:
- Wipe
down all partitions and doors with a damp rag in bathrooms.
- Wipe-down
desktops and chairs in all classrooms. (older students might help with
this in upper grade classrooms) (this may be assigned to after-school
custodian).
- Sweep
under gym bleachers. (during basketball season the game volunteers clean
under bleachers)
- Use
leaf blower and blow dirt towards outside doors, then sweep/mop up.
Monthly:
- Check
one fire alarm station (a different one each month) and record the date.
- Pour
water down drains to fill sewer traps in floor.
- Clean/vacuum
out all ventilation grills, ceiling vents and registers in classrooms,
bathrooms and hallways.
Spring and Fall:
- Wash
windows.
- Check
emergency lights (assign this to building maintenance man)
June and December:
During School Breaks:
- Scrub
and polish hall floors.
- In
consultation with Principal and facility use calendar:
- Shampoo
Fellowship Hall carpet
As Needed:
- Repair
desks (assign to building maintenance man – Bob Johnson).
- Order
janitor supplies.
- Purchase
new equipment (with approval of Board of Properties).
- Contracts
to be approved by building maintenance man.
June-August:
- Shampoo
all classroom carpets and Fellowship Hall after checking facility use
calendar.
- Wash
all desks and chairs thoroughly.
- Keep
Kitchen floor clean
- Strip
floor and wax
- Need
to ask Principal which floors. May need only to be buffed.
End Results:
- Assist
directly in achieving the goals and objectives of the school’s mission by
operating clean and sanitary facilities.
- Encourage
students and parents, and support ministry of called workers by
cooperatively engaging in assigned tasks.
