How must nonprescription and prescription medications be sent to school? If the nonprescription medication is supplied by the student’s parent or guardian, it must be supplied in the original manufacturer’s package, and the package must list the ingredients and recommended therapeutic dosage in a legible format. Prescription medications must be supplied in the original pharmacy-labeled package. The package must list the name of the pupil, name of the prescriber, name of the prescription medication, the dose, the effective date, and the directions in a legible format. It is considered best practice to have all medication delivered to school by the parent or guardian or other designated adult (Davis-Alldritt and Patterson 2017, 384; National Association of School Nurses 2021, 15 ). 

 

No medication of any type will be given to a student without an Administration of Consent form completed by the parent/guardian and/or physicia n, including dosage, route, and exact times to be given. “As Needed” is not allowed for time of administration. These forms are available in the school office and attached here . Please inform your child’s teacher should your child be under medication which might affect the child in class. Simple injuries will be treated with soap and water c leansing.
